Ambulance Shelter Info for GNF

01-November-2013

With the median annual temperature at 28 degrees, an important aspect of sustainable building in Qatar is harnessing the power of the sun. Gulf Contracting Company’s modular building subsidiary, Spacemaker, has done just that – and it just might save lives.

Hamad Medical Corporation, a local medical group, noticed that due to the heavy traffic around Qatar’s capital city, Doha, emergency services were struggling to get to accident callouts quickly.

Their solution was to place ambulance shelters around the city at strategic accident black spots and Spacemaker has had the pleasure of designing and delivering this project. They have built a completely off-grid, solar-powered ambulance shelter. These shelters are placed around the city in areas which will allow emergency services to reach accident victims more quickly, improving the speed and efficiency of Qatar’s accident response time.

The sustainable shelters also incorporate another of Gulf Contracting’s products – Bionest: an efficient, cost-effective, space-saving and sustainable mode of converting waste water into clean, reusable water.

The shelter, which Spacemaker designed and built, features solar energy to power all of the building’s services. Both environmentally sustainable and contributing to the well-being of Qatar’s residents, this project is the first of its kind in the Gulf region.

Well done to all those involved in bringing sustainable solutions to our clients!
