Gulf Contracting, in joint venture with ALEC-Qatar, has been awarded a QR1.974bn (£322,550,000M) contract to deliver the main works for Doha Festival City, which will be Qatar’s largest mall and retail development.
The GCC-ALEC JV is already busy on site delivering Phase 2 of the project (foundations and enabling works). The solid relationship between the client (BASREC) and the GCC-ALEC JV will be further strengthened by working together to deliver an iconic project that will bring a step change to the leisure experience in Qatar.
The mall, due to open in September 2016, represents a great step forward for Qatar’s leisure and retail experience, with an expected 550 new retail brands introduced to Qatar. Phase 1 of Doha Festival City saw the opening of Qatar’s first Ikea store. Phase 2 comprises the enabling works to basement and ground floor levels and Phase 3, the remaining Mall infrastructure.
Commenting on the award, Grahame McCaig, General Manager for Gulf Contracting Co. said, “We have been following this opportunity for a considerable period of time. This award is the culmination of a huge effort by the respective partners’ estimating and commercial teams, ably led by Craig Robertson, the GCC Group Estimating Manager. We are very pleased to be delivering such a prestigious project for Qatar.”
